Karl Lagerfeld, the little genius everyone's after

With his instantly recognizable look, Karl Lagerfeld has left his mark on world fashion history. Dark glasses, tied-back hair, close-fitting suit... the mythical style of the little fashion prodigy has made him a veritable pop culture icon. Born in Hamburg in 1933, Karl quickly discovered he had a talent for drawing. At the age of 17, while winning a fashion competition, he was spotted by Pierre Balmain, who decided to take him under his wing. A long story followed: Jean Patou, Fendi, Chloé, Chanel... Karl Lagerfeld turned everything he touched into gold. Previously a freelance stylist, he decided to open his own fashion house in 1984 under the name Karl Lagerfeld.

Although he continued to work for Chanel and Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld developed products for his own brand and even went so far as to open his own bookshop and publishing house in the early 2000s. It's this curiosity, this desire to dabble in everything, that characterizes the DNA of the Lagerfeld brand.
