Taking over the textile factory founded by his father in Piedmont in 1881, Nino Cerruti launched a men's ready-to-wear business. The man who describes himself as "the youngest of the great classics" opened his first store in Paris, on Rue Royale, in 1967. A line dedicated entirely to women was launched in 1976, in the spirit of supreme elegance that had made the reputation of men's ready-to-wear.

In 1978, Cerruti entered the world of perfumery with the fragrance Nino Cerruti Pour Homme. This was followed by Cerruti 1881 Pour Homme in 1990, Cerruti Image in 1998 and l'Essence De Cerruti since 2008, to name but a few.

Cerruti men's and women's fragrances are inspired by the brand's fashion philosophy: natural elements, sophisticated cuts and impeccable quality. Perfumes, like clothes, must also express the wearer's individuality. Cerruti fashion is simple and refined, combining a strong modernity with an expertise founded on Italian traditions since 1881.

Cerruti puts Italy in Perfume

Founded in 1967, Cerruti is headquartered in Paris. At the time, it specialized in ready-to-wear, luxury goods and perfumes. Cerruti chose Paris to establish a presence in this segment, where a number of big names were already established in the French capital. However, the Italian has chosen a style all his own to make his mark in the capital and give meaning to his company, which is now known throughout Europe. Indeed, Cerruti is a fine example of Italy in Paris. For the Italian designer, it's important to have a chance to showcase a range of products which, since 1967, has never ceased to evolve, while remaining an important reference point for all brand enthusiasts.

The Italian company was officially founded in 1967, but you have to go back ten years to see the first Cerruti products, mainly jeans for men. It was then that Nino Cerruti realized the importance of developing the brand in other ready-to-wear sectors. As the Italian continued to grow with his first boutique, he decided in 1978 to enter the perfume business, and thus found the best opening for internationalization: he created two famous perfume ranges that would make him a household name. Cerruti 1881 and Cerruti Image in the late 90s. Nino Cerruti then handed over the company to Italian investors. In 2006, Cerruti became the property of the American group MatlinPatterson Global Advisors.

Cerruti's Italian fragrances

The most classic Cerruti fragrance for men is, of course, 1881 pour Homme. In homage to his grandfather's early work, Nino Cerruti decided to create a fragrance with the name of a symbolic date, since it was the year the fashion house bearing the family name was founded. This perfume bottle is authentic, with its woody green and stylized writing perfectly incorporated into the bottle, giving the eau de parfum aesthetic depth. Of course, it's the sweet smells of the Mediterranean that we find in this perfume. But the best of the 1881 collection is undoubtedly Cerruti's 1881 Essentiel. And the tribute to Italy is never far away. In fact, Cerruti offers a series of citrus scents that are now very fruity. Grapefruit combined with mandarin orange and a touch of pink pepper, spice up the perfume's flavors.

Cerruti's Image fragrance is a departure from the 1881 tradition of the Cerruti collection. In fact, the designer's desire to do so is the best response to a slight change of direction in perfumery. The Image fragrance responds to this desire to break with the 90s. It's an exclusively masculine fragrance whose main flavors are pear, pepper and a few Barbanancia leaves. Cerruti's change of concept is carried through to the end, as the bottle design is simpler and more modern, and no longer bears the "1881" signature. Almost twenty years old, Cerruti's Image is reserved for free, independent men who want to break free from the rules of the 1990s.

Cerruti women's fragrances

When it comes to Cerruti women's fragrances, there's of course an exclusively feminine 1881 collection that's sure to please. Cerruti's 1881 for women is also available as an eau de parfum, but it's the bottle that deserves special attention. Indeed, its circular shape recalls the softness and delicacy of women. What you need to know about the perfume's composition is that it brings a whole new flavor. Linen flower, orange blossom and a hint of bergamot blend well with jasmine.

These four fragrant sweets illustrate the quality of Cerruti products. The 1881 collection remains a benchmark that has undeniably forged the history of the house. Quite simply, because the Cerruti 1881 fragrance has never been seen before. The last Cerruti to enter the market was Cerruti 1881 Signature, which resulted in a change to the original formula, as pepper was invited into the eau de parfum and the bottle's signature welcomed a slight touch of modernity, with pepper, grapefruit and nutmeg to mark its contemporary masculinity.
