On the trail of a great perfumer

Marcel Rochas is one of the young prodigies of his time, a talented creator. He is nicknamed the couturier of youth as he knows, with brilliance, how to dress the women he adores and knows so well. An intuitive, sensitive, and creative man, he draws inspiration from the artists of his time to imagine Chantilly laces, feminine curves, and sensual fragrances that are his signature. Success is not long in coming, especially among American women.

Born in 1906 in Paris, he is at once a couturier, perfumer, and designer. Indeed, between Marcel Rochas and fashion, it's a great love story, driven by a deep passion for creation in all areas. When he is 23 years old, in 1925, he founds the Rochas house with his first wife. His goal is to enhance the image of women by creating clothes that are both comfortable and pleasing to the eye. He quickly meets with great success in haute couture, both nationally and internationally. He is also the originator of the wasp-waist line, very popular in 1946. Moreover, he seizes countless opportunities to travel to the United States, particularly to Hollywood, where he catches the cinema fever, another sector that brings out his innovative talents.

After Marcel Rochas's death in 1955, his wife, Hélène, takes over his perfume business. For several generations, she develops the brand's reputation thanks to perfumes created by Nicolas Mamounas, such as "Eau de Rochas", Audace, "Lumière" or "Madame Rochas", created by Pierre Dinant. It's also in 1955 that the perfume house is bought by the American group Wella AG. Following this, the Rochas house reconnects with the world of fashion and cosmetics.

Finally, in 2015, the brand is again bought by Inter-parfums, under the direction of Procter and Gamble.

The passing of Madame Rochas and the buyout by a large group has changed nothing in the spirit of Rochas perfumes, which remains unchanged, for sensual, elegant, and timeless women.

A grand vision in fragrance

The first Rochas perfume was released in 1936, and since then, it has continued to produce bestsellers. Although today the house is led by several very talented people, these leaders have kept the message, method, and style of its founder, Marcel Rochas, in all their creations, whether in haute couture or perfumery. The house's philosophy can be summed up in two words: simplicity and youth. More than sixty Rochas perfumes can be listed since the brand's beginnings. The Femme perfume released in 1945, the first to be distributed, was the springboard for Rochas company's success. L'Eau de Rochas, launched in 1970, is one of the brand's legendary productions thanks to its freshness, delicacy, and elegance. Moreover, it has sold 55 million units since its commercialization. In addition to these masterpieces, we can also mention "Tocade", Eau Sensuelle, Eau de Rochas Fraîche, Les Cascades de Rochas Éclat, or "Secret" de Rochas, all created by Jean-Michel Duriez and released in 2008.

For men's pleasure, the first "Rochas Man" perfume was created in 1999 by Maurice Roucet. Based on a concept aimed at bringing out the new man, this Rochas eau de toilette is designed with an oriental blend in a futuristic bottle. It also evokes modernity through its design. The second, Eau de Rochas Homme, has become, like its counterparts, the great classic men's version that reflects the sobriety and spontaneity of the wearer. It emanates freshness and joie de vivre thanks to its accord of bergamot, lemon, and lime.

Timeless products

Rochas also marks the history of perfumery by launching Eau de Cologne for women, which has become timeless since the 1950s. This perfume embodies freedom, joie de vivre, and feminine elegance.
