Guerlain: a French perfume tradition
Considered one of the oldest French perfume houses, Guerlain is now part of the LVMH group, and is still making a name for itself on the perfume market. One of the oldest perfume houses in Paris, Guerlain was quick to make its mark in the perfume sector, since it was the very essence of its creator, Pierre Guerlain, who founded the company in 1828. Guerlain immediately began offering soaps and lipsticks in its early years. In fact, the French entrepreneur understood that his company would expand to include all cosmetics and body care products. Armed with his extensive knowledge, Guerlain wasted no time in introducing its first eaux de toilette. One of the first he created was Blanc de Perle, which was indeed one of the house's first successes. Later, in 1864, the Guerlain sons took up their father's concept and developed fragrances in numbers in the 1920s with Vol de Nuit, in reference to the flying experiences of Mermoz and Saint-Exupéry. Firmly established in the perfume world, Guerlain also consolidated its lipstick market with numerous creations between the wars.
In the 90s, the LVMH group acquired the company and continued along the same lines as founder Pierre Guerlain. LVMH let the company pursue its entrepreneurial activities in the perfume and make-up markets, the two areas in which Guerlain made its name.
