An Olfactory Odyssey Through the Centuries

The Guerlain story is a fascinating tale of innovation and passion. In 1828, Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain opened his first boutique in Paris, on rue de Rivoli. His exceptional talent soon won him a prestigious clientele, culminating in 1853 with the creation of Eau de Cologne Impériale for Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III.

Aimé Guerlain, son of the founder, took the reins in 1864, creating the legendary Jicky in 1889, considered the first modern perfume. Gabriel Guerlain continued the legacy in the early 20th century, followed by Jacques Guerlain, who made history with iconic creations such as L'Heure Bleue (1912) and Shalimar (1925).

Jean-Paul Guerlain, the last perfumer of the dynasty, took over in 1955, creating masterpieces such as Vétiver (1959) and Habit Rouge (1965). In 1994, Guerlain joined the LVMH group, opening a new chapter in its history. Thierry Wasser became the first perfumer from outside the family in 2008, perpetuating the legacy while breathing new modernity into the house.
