The House of Chopard: Ahead of Its Time?
At only 24 years old, Louis-Ulysse Chopard, founder of the House of Chopard, was a talented watchmaker. He decided to establish his own manufacture to create highly precise watches and chronometers, achieving immense success in Switzerland, his native country. Prized by the highest names of the time, including Tsar Nicholas II, Louis-Ulysse Chopard excelled in everything he undertook. He quickly exported internationally and made his name a guarantee of excellence worldwide. His son Paul Louis and grandson Paul-André successively took over the reins of the House of Chopard and continued to develop the brand's image in Switzerland and beyond its borders. But when Paul-André couldn't find a successor for the house, he despaired at the thought of seeing it fall into oblivion.
Karl Scheufele, a German watchmaker and entrepreneur, seized the opportunity and bought the famous Swiss watch house. It was largely thanks to this change in ownership that the Chopard brand would succeed in becoming indispensable: leather goods, accessories, perfumes, watches... The company developed at an incredible speed. Today, Karl Scheufele's children are at the helm of the House of Chopard and continue to make the famous Swiss company prosper.
