Lancôme, a history at the heart of French cultural values

The house of Lancôme was founded by Armand Petitjean on February 21, 1935, and quickly became a great success. Armand Petitjean was born in 1884 and came from a family of distillers. Until 1925, he worked with his two brothers in an import-export company in Santiago, Chile. At the age of 50, he left the Coty house where he worked as a perfumer and created his own prestigious commercial perfumery: Lancôme. For this, he formed his small team consisting of Pierre Vélon, chemist, Georges Delhomme, creator of the bottles, the d'Ornano brothers for the commercial aspect, and Edouard Breckenridge, lawyer.

For his company, Petitjean wanted an authentic French name. Guillaume d'Ornano then proposed the name of a castle located in the Indre: Lancosme. They later changed the "os" to "ô", which seemed more modern.

In 1942, Armand Petitjean created the Lancôme school in Paris. The purpose of this approach was to train ambassadors to promote the cultural values of Lancôme, and therefore of France. This is how carefully selected students received in-depth scientific and artistic training at this establishment.

In 1955, Lancôme perfumes were on sale in 98 countries. In 1958, Lancôme received a gold medal and a diploma of honor at the Brussels World's Fair.

In 1961, Armand-Marcel Petitjean, son of Armand Petitjean, took over the reins of the company. He remained at the head of the Lancôme house for three years before selling it to L'Oréal. Thus, since 1964, Lancôme has been part of the L'Oréal group and belongs to its division dedicated to perfumes and cosmetics in selective distribution.

Lancôme, iconic perfumes that inspire joie de vivre

The most iconic creation is Lancôme's women's perfume "La vie est belle". A unique fragrance created by three of the greatest French perfumers. Lancôme seeks to convey messages through its perfumes. The brand thus created La Vie est Belle to symbolize a new philosophy of life: far from constraints, every woman wants to choose her own path to happiness. With its notes of Florence iris, Arabian jasmine, orange blossom, and patchouli, this perfume is a perfect balance between nobility and gourmandise. This eau de parfum is sold in 30 ml, 50 ml, and 75 ml bottles.

After La Vie est Belle, another flagship creation from Lancôme for women that can be mentioned is "La Nuit Trésor". This eau de parfum embodies absolute love, the encounter between two stars, mysterious, fascinating, and poetic at the same time. It contains Damascus rose that surrenders to the touch of jasmine and peony, delicious vanilla, patchouli essence, and velvety musk. This little gem from the brand has a unique olfactory composition and seems to be an addictive floral explosion.

Far from neglecting its male audience, the house also offers "Hypnôse", a Lancôme perfume for men inspired by the Hypnôse eau de parfum for women. It subtly combines cardamom and mint with very subtle touches of Indonesian patchouli and musk. It is a charming and captivating blend, as its name so well indicates. It seems to possess oriental notes, but updated for modern tastes. This essence is contained in a sprayer with pure lines in 50 and 75 ml versions.

Elegant icons to represent an exceptional brand

Armand Petitjean believed that ambassadors should be the most elegant in order to convey the Lancôme message and promote the brand's values and French culture.

The first to have had the chance to represent the luxurious Lancôme house in 1983 was the Italian-American actress Isabella Rosselini. Between her and Lancôme, it's been a great love story for over thirty years.

Lancôme now has several faces, including Spanish actress, model, and designer Penélope Cruz, and the latest addition, American actress and producer Julia Roberts.

The latter represents the perfume La Vie est Belle for women, and the slogan she has adopted for this campaign is: "The Lancôme woman is graceful and timeless. She is a beautiful and confident woman".
