Hermès, the exceptional fragrance of Paris
Founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, the House of Hermès is ambitious and demonstrates that there is a true French history of perfume. Indeed, Thierry Hermès quickly began to develop his business around materials for horses. The death of the founder in 1870 left his sons Charles-Émile Hermès and then his grandsons Adolphe and Émile-Maurice to take over. While horse equipment was the main activity of the House of Hermès, the expansion into perfumery and luxury became the family's obsession, leading to the creation of their first perfume in the 1950s. Eau d'Hermès quickly became a bestseller, impressing the public with its surprising bottle and content of flavors. The house took advantage of this to establish itself definitively in the perfume industry while continuing to develop in the world of ready-to-wear, of which the house would become a reference in the 1990s-2000s. The internationalization of the House of Hermès began in the 60s in Asia, then progressively in the United States and throughout Europe. There was clearly a desire to show the French spirit of Hermès to the world. This is why its association with LVMH in 2010 was anything but a surprise. The two houses would collaborate until becoming a major brand, which remains divided between LVMH and Hermès.
